Integrated project

For the new brief I have chosen to look at the Police and to create a piece of artwork  that shows where they come from, who they are and where they are going.

My initial research looked at where the police come from:

  • The first police force was set up in London in 1829 by Robert Peel who was the Home Secretary after the Metropolitan Police Act of 1829.
  • The Police officers were known as 'Peelers' or 'Bobbies' this came from Robert Peel.
  • By September 1829 the first Metropolitan Police were patrolling the streets of London. They had 17 divisions with 4 inspectors and 144 constables each.
  • Scotland Yard is the headquarters.
  • Their only weapon was a truncheon and they also carried a rattle to raise alarm.
