My initial research looked at where the police come from:
- The first police force was set up in London in 1829 by Robert Peel who was the Home Secretary after the Metropolitan Police Act of 1829.
- The Police officers were known as 'Peelers' or 'Bobbies' this came from Robert Peel.
- By September 1829 the first Metropolitan Police were patrolling the streets of London. They had 17 divisions with 4 inspectors and 144 constables each.
- Scotland Yard is the headquarters.
- Their only weapon was a truncheon and they also carried a rattle to raise alarm.
